MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

NO "TICKET" ORGANISATION. THE MAYOR'S STAND. A meeting in connection with the forthcoming municipal elections was held at Mr. E. P. Webster's office in Devon Street on Saturday evening, being convened by several gentlemen interested. There was a fair number present. In opening the proceedings, the Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson) said he ••ad learnt at the association of the names of certain gentlemen as candidates for councillorships with him as candidate for the mayoralty had been interpreted as an intention to run a ticket or party. Anything of that nature was, of course, to be strictly avoided. No description of party 'was wanted in the council. Tiie meeting thereupon decided that it should deal only with the eandidatcship of Mr. Wilson for the mayoralty, leaving the candidates for the Council to work independently. Committees were then set up to forward Mr. Wilson's candidature, and the work of organisation dealt with. DEFECTIONS FROM THE COUNCIL. COUNCILLOR CLARKE'S SURPRISE PACKET. SEVERAL FRESH ASPIRANTS. With the date of the elections approaching, the contests are arousing some interest. It is understood that several sitting members of the council are not seeking re-election, among tlnse being Messrs P. H. Jackson, .T. Kibby, N. T. Maimer, J. Clarke. W. Healy, C. H. Burgess, and W. Ambury. The probable candidates include several fresh seekers after municipal honors, however, among those whose names ire mentioned being Messrs A. E. Watkins, P. J. Hill, ,T. W. Hay deli, AV. F. Short and E. J. Sole. Several other names are also rumoured, and there seems to be every probability of a contest taking place.
