DAMAGES FOR COLLISION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, March 20. In a civil claim, the Court awarded Olive Buick, machinist, .i! 200 as damages, with coats, against Jelin Wliitty, tax-driver, and Whitty's father, part owner, of the car. Miss Buick had been seriously injured as the result of a collision between Whittys car and a motorcycle and side-car, in which she was a passenger. AUTOMATIC BAKERIES. Wellington, March 20. The new conditions in the bakery business, in consequence of the establishment cf automatic bakeries, led to a test ease being stated before the Arbitration Court to-day. The Inspector of Awards proceeded against the Automatic Bakeries Ltd. to recover a £IOO penalty for employing during the week ended January 10 a baker between midnight afid 4 a m., and failing to pay hira double rates. The employment of the mail before 3 a.m. was admitted, but it was contended that the firm was entitled to exemption, since it had country deliv- j eries within the meaning of the award. The Court dismissed the claim. j " A serious' CHARGE. Christchurch, March 20. Bertram Dunn appeared in Court today charged with attempt to procure abortion. He was remanded to Friday next, ball being allowed, himself in £3OO and one surety for £3OO. The case is the outcome of evidence at the inquest concerning the death of an illegitimate child last Monday.
