CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.

VARIOUS RESOLUTIONS CARRIED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. llobart, March 10. The Chambers of Commerce Conference has concluded. Several resolutions were passed regarding the increasing of trade within the Empire, by means of preferential tariffs, awakening public interest, and ascertaining whether foreign imported goods cannot be made in the Empire. The Allies' trading with the enemy was also discussed, and it was decided to request the Government to legislate for the appointment of custodians to take over money dividends on shares payable to enemy aliens, to insure that no money reaches enemy countries.

The conference also passed a resolution that steps should be taken to prevent members unwittingly trading with the enemy by means of the circulation of all communications considered to be of enemy origin. A resolution was passed, thanking the Capetown Chamber for facilitating dealing with the Australasian goods in German interned steafers. It was agreed to hold the next congress in Brisbane in May, 1916.
