KING PETER'S MESSAGE.
"THE CHEAT ENGLISH NATION." The following message from King J'etcr of Scrvia was published in the Daily Chroniclo on January 1:"I am glad of the occasion that lias been offered me of expressing to the English nation the feelings that animate my people and myself on this the first day of the yoar that is beginning. "Terrible and painful as have been the trials which have befallen our motherland during the past three years, and which are not yet ended, I am convinced that neither courage no.' confidence will fail 'tis until tho task that has been begun i s achieved. We have an unshakable faith ill the future. "1 am convinced that the efforts of all those who are fighting at this moment for the cause of right, justice and small, will. with God's help, be crowned with success.
"! hope for the coming at no distant date of a long peace, won at the price of the heaviest sacrifices, in which all the nations will be aide to consecrate all their vital energies to the task of progress. "i'ly land is proud of fighting for these nohlc causes, alongside tlie great English nation and her noble and mighty allies. "1 seize this occasion of expressing to the British nation not only the gratitude of the Serbian people, but also my sincere wish that the year that is beginning mav bring to an end the great war we are engaged in."
