WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD.
•MONTHLY MEETING. At the. monthly meeting of the above board, there were present—Mr 11. B. Lepper (chairman) and Messrs French, Surrey and Turnbull. Mr G. V. Tate wrote, requesting that the portion of Broyn Road adjoining the Waitai'a borough should be regraded, and it was decided to undertake the work as soon as the roatf-gn»uer is available. The chairman reported that he had interviewed Mrs T. Giddy regarding clearing the piece of land, being unused portion of .Manutahi East Road deviation, and she had promised to let the board know if she was prepared to keep same free of noxious weeds. Should she decide to give the land irp_ Mr P. Openshaw was prepared to take it over. Mr Turnbull reported that Mr R. Wells had offered to plough a portion of Cross Road adjoining his section, provided same was formed up with the road-grader, and that same had been done. Messrs H. Hall and A. Roberts requested permission to put in pipe culverts at their entrances, and they were given permission to do so, provided the work was done under the supervision of the surfaceman. Messrs' Digging arid Ilellier attended the meeting, and requested that the hills on Manutahi "West Road should . be cut down, and stated that the settlers on the road were prepared to give a donation towards cost of the j work. The board inspected the proposed work and considered it would cost more than the settlers anticipated, lint that it might be possible to undertake the grading of one of the hills now. Mr Hellier stated that he would interview the settlers and communicate their decision to the board.
Vive applications were received for the position of clerk to the . board, and Mr E. Gihnour was appointed. Surfaceman A. IT. Jordan reported that the culvert by Manutahi- East Road bridge required thfee more pipes, and these were authorised to bo procured.
Pipes were also authorised to be procured for a culvert on York Road, and a culvert on the same road is to be raised.
It was decided to do the necessary formation on Ninia Road, the natives having done tile ploughing, and a further portion beyond the railway crossing is to be done, the settlers having donated sufficient money to complete the work.
Weekly diary sheets for the surfacemen are to he procured similar to those used liv the county surfacemen. Accounts amounting to £O7 were passed for pavment, and the board adjourned.
