HARBOR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board was held at the Board's olfice yesterday when those present were: Messrs J. B. Connett (chairman), E. Maxwell, J. Marx, C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., Newton King and C. E. Bellringer, with the secretary (Mr. Rennell). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. Hughes and J. McCluggage. WATER SUPPLY. The chairman was appointed to affix the seal of tlx; Board, and witli Messrs Maxwell and King was also appointed to sign an agreement with the New Plymouth Borough Council for the supply of water to the Board. COMMITTEE REPORT. The committee recommended tliat all existing permits be cancelled and new permits issued from January, l!)l(i. No [ further permits to be issued until regulations are adopted by the Board. Tenants whose buildings do not meet with approval of the Board to be notified at an early date that they must remove present buildings and erect new ones to the standard plans hereinafter specified, otherwise no further permits will be issued to them; (2) The Board's soli,tor, in consultation with a committee be set up by the Board to draft regulations to be submitted to the Board, the regulations to embody provisions for: — Standard plans, fixed alignment for buildings; provision of approved sanitary conveniences, provisions of occupancy providing that only bona fide fishermen may reside continuously 011 the reserve and that all others mustgive proof that they are bona fide occupiers of dwellings !n some other locality and that they will be only temporary occupants. Rentals continuous tf>. temporary £2 per annum, boat shed without accommodation to be £1 per boat; 15s of each permit granted for any site eastward of the Hongi Hongi stream to go to improvements. Form of license to be drafted. Planting area to be along front of reserve. Building alignment to be along southern boundary. Building area as marked on plan. Mr Marx suggested that the rent of the cottages be made £3 instead of £2. He considered that compared with the rent, of the boats it was too small. Mr Wilkinson supported. f)ther members pointed out that they wished to popularise the place.
It was eventually decided that it be increased to £2 10s. Tile report was adopted on the motion of Mr King seconded by Mr Wilkinson. Mr Marx moved that the chairman and Messrs King and Bellringer be appointed a committee to supervise the granting of permits in connection with the letting of the sections, etc.. and to carry out the committee's recommendations.—Carried. HARBORMASTER'S REPORT. The harbormaster (Mr W. Waller) reported that the arrivals at the port of New Plymouth for the four weeks ending March 13th consisted of 20 steamships, aggregating 20,208 tons. The departures for the saim» period amouptcd to the same number and tonnage. The imports amounted to 0342 tons, including 210} tons of coal, 1477 tons of which was for private use and 027 tons for the Railway Department. The exports were 1552 tons making the total weight handled 7504 tons. Tlie harbor was sounded on the Bth and oth inst. during very favorable weather conditions. As might be seen from a plan, there was ample water for berthing steamships of large tonnage.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The superintendent, of works, (Mr T\ Henderson | reported that during the past month the Paritutu had been engaged fur twelve days with the sa;>d pump at the breakwater spit and fairway and had removed S. r > loads of sand, equal to 31.000 tons. Eleven days were occupied with buckets nt the third basin cut and 33 loads equal to 13.200 tons, were removed. The third basin cut had been carried in 410 feet from Ihp end of the wharf at a depth o>" 10 fct throughout and the uniue area is now being dredged to 20ft at low water. Tho Thomas King pumped at the breakwater bank on 14 days and removed 104 loads, equal to 5320 tons. This dredge was laid up for eight days for cleaning and pairing the hull and the annual overhaul and inspection of machinery. The only repairs of note were the fitting of a now" tail shaft and propeller. The line of two-inch pipes which extended from the windmill lo .';he reservoir had been taken n». Those pipes, being in splendid condition, will serve for connecting the wharf with the borough water service. Repairs have been effected to the wharf and '.228 yards of shingle have been lifted from Mikotahi with the erane and grab bucket. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £3975 were passed for payment.
