WAITARA. At the usual weekly meeting of the Patriotic Committee on Monday evening the secretary submitted a balance sheet of receipts and expenditure up to date, showing the receipts to have ' been £ 134(5 2s 7d. The expenditure was as follows:—Empire Defence Fund f* Belgian Belief Fund £OOO,. Belgian Christmas Fund £O3 fis, English Relief Fund £IOO, Regimental Fund £l2 10s, troopers' kits and expenses £23 12s Gil. "ear-marked" donations £2O 18s lid, printing and advertising, inclusive of publication of " Tlie Patriot" £l7 12s 3d, petty expenses £3 fls fid, balance in hand' £lO4 13s sd; total £1346 2s 7d. i A further sum of £3O 15s lid was receivod at the meeting, making the total £1370 IBs Gd. The sixpence per week fund lias total- • led for the two quarters £I GO 10s 3(1. ■ It is anticipated that with the carnival i and art union next month a further ' £3OO to £4OO will Tie realised, and i that the aimed at sum, £2OOO minimum will then soon bein sigbt. . Those interesting themselves in the i carnival to be held at the end of April - are working hard to make it a Success, and the introduction of many nor- . e'ties will be sure draw. A torchlight procession will take place on, the ■ opening evening, the arrangements beirn? in the hands of the Fire Brigade, whicli will be a sure incentive to success. A floral procession will tak-» place in the afternoon.
