mail COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Ry Telegraph.—f'ress Association. "Wellington, March 15. Following is the lligh Commissioner's cablegram, under date. London > March' 13.' (Note. — Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market juices on spot):— The meat market is unaffected by increased arrivals of chilled beef. There is less demand for all descriptions of frozen mutton, but the market is firm notwithstanding. Mutton—North Island, Gd for best quality, ordinary quality 5%d, ewes 5 9-lGd.
lamb.—Other than Canterbury 7%d, second grade 7y 2 d. Beef. —New Zealand hinds GVsd, fores 0 ! /sd; chilled hinds G : }d, fores 5%d. Butter.—The market is very firm. Danish 146s to 148s, New Zealand 138s to 140s, exceptionally 1425, Australian 130s to 138s. exceptionally 140s, Siberian 130s to 1345, Argentine 134s to 138s. i Cheese. —The market is very firm, owing to continued demands for the Government. Holders are firm. The Somerset should dock some time to-day, The Canadian supply is practically exhausted. Canadian white and coloured 04s to l)Gs, New Zealand, firm, white and coloured 02s to 04s, United States 80s to 90s. English Cheddar, firm, 08s to 102s, Australian Sfls to 02s.
Hemp.—The market is rather more active, and there is better demand. New Zealand good-fair grade £328, fair £3O, fair current Manila £3G 10s in any position. The output" from Manila for the week was 24,000 bales. Quotations always include war risk.
Wheat,—The market is steady, but there has been considerable fluctuation in prices. Buyers are holding back, as Argentine reports are unfavourable! Canadian 02s, American 02s, Argentine Gin. Wool.—The market is strong. ELTIIAM MARKET REPORT. King and Stilibs report as follows for the week ending 13th March.:— Wo had a good attendance of the public for our sale on Saturday, almost everything submitted to auction being sold. Prices were as follow: Pigs (only small number penned).— WcaiiiTs Ids to 10s fid. Hens , (old) Is to Is Gd, fat do. Is fid to Is 10(1, cockerels Is to Is 3d, pullets Is 3d to Is Gd, ducks Is 5d to Is 9d. A larger quantity of furniture, than usual was offered and found a readv sale. Fruit is now coming forward in lesser quantities and prices are hardening. Pears 3s Gd to 4s, apples (cookers) 2s Gd to 3s, bushel cases 5s Gd to 0s 6d, dessert apples (bushel cases) 6s Gd to 7s, tomatoes Gs 'dd to 7s, cucumbers Is Gd to 2s (id, quinces 2s Gd to 3? Gd. We also disposed of a quantity of vegetables and pot plants at satisfactory prices. The demand for seed Algerian oats is still unsatisfied. We would be pleased to receive samples of same, as we can readily dispose of good -seed.
