It is reported that the Canterbury Steamship Co.'s new steamer Zephyr is expected to arrive in New Zealand waters this month fron\ South America. It is the intention of the company to run a four-day service from southern ports to Wangnnui and a ten-day service from the Bluff. According to advice received bv the local acents for the Shaw Savill and Albion Company, the vessels engaged in the London-Wellington service will in future leave a fortnight later than usual. This new arrangement will be commenced by the Mamari, which was to leave London on March 5, but which will now leave on March 19. The Mamari will also be the first vessel affected as far as the sailings from New Zealand are concerned. There appears to be a dearth of officers and qualified seamen at the present I time, probably due to the fact that such a large number of men have [eft their j eliips to join the expeditionary forces [for service abroad. On making inquiries, an Auckland Herald representative was informed that at least 3 sailing vessels at Auckland experienced considerable difficulty last week in obtaining sufficient men to complete their complement. The barque Rona, which sailed on Wednesday for Newcastle, had to wait for some time in the stream while her owners searched for a second mate. The barquentine Senorita had been detained at Auckland for nearly a week,- , owing to a shortage of her crew. Another vessel, the barque Louisa Craig, also required the services of several seamen.
