Mr. .Toll 11 Wilkinson announced to a meeting hi the Choral Hull to-night that that sum had conic into his hands that day for distribution. The Wellington Farmers' 'Meat Company has decided to increase its capital by £OO,OOO, to enable provision to be made for increased slorage capacity at Waingawa works for another 100,000 sheep. ' AMBULANCE SATURDAY. ..Wellington, Last Sight. * Ambulance Saturday was held in fine weather, with very satisfactory results, a total of £2lO Ss'4d being collected, as against £97 in May last. A MOTORIST ARRESTED. Auckland, Last N>ht. A man named Hugh McGccchen was knocked down by a motor-car and received painful injuries to his head. A number of nedestrians who witnessed the accident called out to the driver of the car, and an attempt was made to stop him. One of the, bystanders jumped on to the motor as it passed him, but was unable to make the driver pull up. Luckily a policeman on point duty at Wellcsloy Street realised what was hapi pening, and he managed to bring the car to a standstill. The driver of the. : ear was arrested, and was driven to the police station in his own car, the serv vices of a chauffeur from the taxi-stand near 'by being requisitioned to take him ; to the lock-up.
