Wellington, March 13. • One result of the recent Ministerial visit to Mount Cook is that proposals will be put before the Minister of Bailways to enable the train service* to Fairlie to fit in better with the needs ■. of travellers. The advisableness of increasing the accommodation at The Hermitage is being considered, and tha improving of the road from Fairlie. Mr. Rhodes, Minister of the Tourist Department, t'lvriks it may be advisable to "" open the place in the spring before the snow clears away, to allow visitors to indulge in ski-ing and tobogganing. The now bridge over the Hooker has been * begun, to replace that destroyed by floods. Experiments are to be made with asphalt, in order to ascertain if tennis courts can be constructed. A garden will be laid out for New Zealand alpine plants, and another for imported alpine flora.
