Law, Inglewood (continuation of second round match); Albion v. United Service, Western Park':(friendly match). NEWS AND NOTES. There is every prospect of interest in the Saturday competition being sustained right up to the hist match, and liy a strange anomaly of cricket, Law and Tikorangi, who have been chasing each other for the honor of annexing the wooden spoon, have the making or '.inmaking of champions in their hands. It looks as though a play-olf will be necessary between Inglewood and New Plymouth, though it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that United Service may snatch a last-minute win. To do this, Tikorangi must beat New Plymouth to-day, and Law must win one of its matches against Inglewood. New Plymouth have scored 23(i and Tikorangi 88 for 0 wickets (Roberts 57, not out). Neither team will be able to substitute .■ any player, as the whole eleven have" batted or bowled. To have any chance of ultimate success New Plymouth must score a three point win. whieli will make their maximum 13 points. Inglewood can equal that by obtaining two twopointers against Law. Shoiul tliev obtain 5 points from Law ill the two matches t.hev will win. Inglewood have come along well in the. last round. They forfeited one match to Xew Plymouth through bring unable to get, a team together. This appear-'d to put them right out of the limit, but United Service's series of defeats made t'ne position more open. In the match to be continued to-day law hao made 1 (55 and Inglewood lias iost4 wickets for iin. Law will have to play ten mcj.. as Lasli is unable to play owing to ir'.iiry to his hand. Of the Inglewood eleven Thomas, not having handled the bat or ball, may befreplacd if ab3ciit. The substitution question is one that requires careful handling. The Tnglcwood-Phoenix match at the R'-creation f'.round on Thursday will attract great interest. Inglewood have n six-point lead at present, lint should they he defeated and Phoenix also succeed in beatiiiL' Tikorangi. n. iie will
