SIX NEW ARMIES.
The Army Order published at the beginning of the year, announcing the dedevelopment of Britain's military organisation by the creation of armies, marks a very important stage in our participation in the war (says the Times). At its outbreak wo had technically only one army at the front, consisting of a certain number of army corps, the whole force being under the general command of Field-Marshal French. The enormous new forces wc have now raised nnke it necessary to expand our orgnnis -tion. The Order of December 30 contemplates the creation, of six armies, each consisting of three army corps. The first and second armies are to be commanded by Sir Douglas Haig and Sir Horace Smit.'iDorrien—a very natural choice, as these generals are at present our leading commanders at the front. The other four armies are to be commanded respectively by Sir Archibald Hunter, Sir lan Hamilton, Sir Leslie Rundle and Sir Bruce Hamilton.
