LEO, JAN AND MISC'IIEL CIIERNIAVSK.Y. Good news; very good news is to hand. The young geniuses, Leo, Jail and Mis. chel Chemiavsky,'violinist, pianist, 'cellist, will visit this town on March 22nd. All music lovers, even a wider public than is implied in Music lovers, will hail with delight these sturdy young Russian artists. It is interesting to note that the first war fund was started by the Cherniavskv's in Brisbane, and the first donation received by the Mayor of that city was from them. During their visit to Brisbane, 'they gave one concert in aid of the fund, which is now larger than the war funds of any of the States. Leo, Jan and Mischel Chernlaskv Have had an enormously successful tour in Australia. The young artists can rest assured that they will get a good reception on their visit to this town. The New Zealand tour will be a quick one, as the Cherniavskv's are due to shortly open in the United States of America, where their coming is being eagerly looked forward to. Of all the concert parties that have visited tills country since the Clara Butt tour, the Cherniavskv's have been The strongest attraction.
EMPIRE PICTURES. The new programme introduced at the Empire Theatre Inst night contains three most interesting feature films. The big picture of the bill is an enthralling Yitagraph production, "The Add Test " The opening of the drama shows an apparently cold and heartless soei ;l-y biile treating her host of admirers with icy civility, which descends even to contempt. Then there happens along a fascinating type of gentleman—a handsome American millionaire. The cold-hc'artcd society belle must relax her demeanor a little, but no more. This wins the heart of the millionaire. ITe proposes and is acaeeepted An observant friend warns him that he is about to marry a "heartless" woman, but "love is blind," and the marriage eventuates. The friend's warning seems only too true after marriage, and a miserable life appears the only result for the millionaire. He lias more than money, however, and by a subterfuge (the pretension that l>v an untoward misfortune he Tuis'Vcn made 'penniless) he pierces his wife's outward coldness and finds that she really loves him. But this film is not the only fine one on the programme: supporting it is a fascinating Mary Pickford story, entitled "Lena and the Tn it we see this charm, ing and clever little picture artisic when | she commenced her career with the A.B. company. The story and its pourtrayal arc alike excellent. Other films on the bill include a ludicrous Keystone comedy, "Their I'ps and Downs," in which Ros'eoc Arbucklo, the Keystone fat man, leads the mirth, another most laughable "comic, "A "Million Dollar Bride," and a most interesting war picture, "The Gaumont War Graphic." Two beautiful scenics are also included ill the bill. "Along the Descula" and "On the River Katsurn. Japan." Altogether the programme is well up to tlie high standard set by the Empire, and is screened finally to-night.
