PUKEKURA PARK.
CURATOR'S REPORT. At the meeting of the iPukekura Park Board last night the curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) reported as follows: I have to report respecting the work of the Park staff during the month of I' ebniary. The weather being dry and warm, we devoted several days to cleaning and burning the. rubbish accumulating under the pine trees. The chief work of the montli, however, has been that of general mainteanee of the park. The large macrocarpa tree standing near the. Sports Ground shed was felled, and readily sold as firewood. Next month, or during the month of May, Ave will plant the vacant site with mamaiais and pongas for immediate ef. feet. There are several other halfdead macroearpas anil pines which I would suggest be removed immediately and sold to the citizens for firewood. The sites would also be planted in May with fine species of native plants which we have on hand. lam glad to report to the Board that notwithstanding the great throng of visitors to the Park on Belgian fete day, on February 4, no damage, whatever was noticeable to the Board's property. /Ail was extremely orderly, and tile fete proved a great success. I would beg to suggest to the that it purchase a small lawn mower for use 011 our three lawns. It is somewhat time-killing to have to do all the work with a scythe. The recent rains have been very beneficial to the Park, which looks fresh and vigorous at the present time.
