MEETING AT STRATFORD. A general meeting of the TaranaJp.i branch of the Teachers' Institute was", held at Stratford on Saturday. The . president (Mr. 11. A. Stratford) presided over a good attendance of members 1 Eight new members were elected.. A letter was read from the Miarl-. boroug'i Institute in favor of better treatment for, teachers ,in_,Gra4e ~Hlb t sohools, which must eventually prffv.i. detrimental to promotion.—Seconded 'by l Mr. Mail and carried. A vote of condolence was passed to. the widow and, family of the late Mr.. Royd Garliclc for physical training, and' of sympathy with Mrs. Garlick. Mr. Turkington moved' that the Mia-, ister be asked to grant three months'' leave to teachers retiring on superannuation. —The motion was lost. .By-law 17 was altered to ,the effect, that nominations for representatives to> the annual conference shall close on March 31, ballot papers to be returned by May 1, A letter was received from'the National Schools Defence League asking* for assistance in defraying the costs, of opposing the proposals of the Bible-in-Sehools League.—-It wa,3 decided-that' members inav, send donations to the sec-, retary, to be forwarded to Mr. Caughley,. Christchureh'. Members were reminded that representatives to the forthcoming conference, in July must' be, nominated by March 31.
