'UMPIRE PICTURES. Two star dramas are featured on tonight's new bill, "The Passing of Diana," liy Vitagraph, and "The Fringe on the (i'love," by Kalem. "The Passing of Diana" is a beautiful drama. The following is the short story: Geoffrey Brooke, an African explorer, becomes a friend of Kodney M'illerj, a, struggling artist. Through his influence Miller becomes celebrated. Brookes is called to the Congo, leaving behind his bride of a few months. Miller is about to despair of finding a suitable model for his supreme artist effort, a painting of Circe, the temptress, when Cleo, a bewitehingly beautiful woman, enters and offers to pose for it. They fall deeply in love with each other. Later he becomes engaged to Eva Warren, daughter of one of his patrons. Cleo learns of this, and tries to poison herself. Brooke returns from Africa and invites Miller home to meet his wife. There the artist discovers that Brooke's wife is none other than Cleo, his model. Both are greatly alarmed as Miller has sold Cleo's picture to an art dealer, who is about to exhibit it. Fearing Brooke will recognise the features, Miller tries in vain to purchase the picture. Cleo suggests he visit the gallery that night and mutilate the portrait. Face to face with his masterpiece,' the artist is unable to destroy it, and instead paints in another face. The day before Miller's wedding, Cleo leaves a note in his study saying she is going 'to kill both herself and Eva. Learning they have gone motoring, Miller frantically follows, hoping to intercept the woman's terrible plan. He almost catches them, when Cleo's high-power machine plunges over a steep cliff, killing her instantly. Eva jumps i n time to miraculously scape death. "The Fringe on tiie Glove," features Carlyle Blaekwell in a most sensational drama that should appeal to all picture lovers who are fond of tense excitement.
