CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

QUARTERLY meeting. Tie quarterly meeting of the New Plymouth Chamber of C'ommerbe was held last night. EXPORT OF DAIRY PRODUCE. The Collector of Customs (Mr R, Eyre) forwarded a list of 'butter and clieeae marks for produce to be credited to the porta of New Plymouth and Hawera. Hie I resident stated that tiic Department liad gone back to the old system, everything that went over the breakwater being credited to New Plymouth and what went over, the Patea wharf being credited to Patea. The authorities had endeavored to fix a dividing line, so that all from on c side would to credited to New Plymouth, and on the other to latea. This, however, was unworkable, as Patea would thus gain the credit o£ two big factories, but New Plymouth would gain none from Patea. IvAPiONGA'S 'REQUIREMENTS. Ihe ICaponga Town Board asked the co-opeiatiou oi the Chamber in securing an alteration of the railway running so that the 4,SJi} train from New Plymouth would cross the express at Bitiiani, thus enabling ivaponga people to make the return journey to New Plymouth in one day, and still connect with the coach leaving Eitham after the mail train. The Chairman thought that the Chamber should support the proposal. It did not purpose to alter the tune of departure of tlie afternoon train, but merely that tlie train should be speeded up. Hie more people that could be induced to eome to New Plymouth the better. Sir. Whaw did not know whether it would be possible to speed up the train sulliciently, and lie thought they would object if tlie train left New Plymouth, any earlier than at present. After some discussion it was decided to support the proposal of the Kaponga Town Board, provided it did not entail the earlier departure of the. afternoon train from New Plymouth. THE WARO BLOCK.

The Ohura County Council wrote re questing the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce in connection with amqre speedy method of completing the survey of the Waro block. This block was situated in the west-jrn portion of the Olmfa county, and Contained about 00,003 acres of good sheep country, part of which had already been surveyed.

The President stated t'rnt the block in question was on the Mt. Messenger side, and would lie of great benefit to New Plymouth, as most of the produce would come this way. It was unanimously decided to interview the Commissioner of Crown Lands on the matter, and, if necessary, then to refer to headquarters. The Ohura body will be notified to this effect. OTHER MATTERS. The President (brought up the question of revising the by-laws, so as to enlarge the scope of the Chamber. He suggested that a committee should be set up for the purpose.
