SUMMARY AND FORECAST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Nip]it. Following is„Mr. Bates' weather summary for the j&st twenty-four hours;— Cloudy and unsettled weather lias prevailed and rain has fallen in most parts of the country. The barometer rose slightly in the south during the night, hut -lias fallen considerably elsewhere. Strong northerly to westerly winds have ruled in the north, and 30utherlies now predominate in the south. Forecast: Present indications are for westerly to southerly winds, strong to gale generally, heavy rain probable, especially on the east coast of the South Island and about Coolc Strait; snow on higher levels in the. south, and colder weather following; the barometer rising everywhere soon. There is a prospect of the weather clearing at the week-end.
