FOUGHT TO THE LAST.
A GALLANT STAND. AND A PLUCKY RESCUE. Reeived 28, 5.5 p.m. London, February 27. "Eye-Witness" reports that during the lighting on tho 17th south-east of Ypres that a company of men held a position until all were killed or wounded, and only three of the latter were capable of firing. They kept the enemy at bay until the ammunition was nearly exhausted. Then they sent word to the rear. Seven strong men carried ammunition to the trench. They found the three survivors standing among their dead and disabled comrades, still firing steadily. They came in the nick of time to help to beat oil' the. assault, and the position was saved.

"Eye-Witness" mentions that at one portion of the brick field a young Gei'luan officer charged at the head of thirty men waving his sword and reaching the entanglements. He was killed, and still lies there, sword in hand, and his thirty cei'.-idcs dead around him. FRENCH .''ROGKESS CONTINUES. Received 2.5, 5.5 p.m. Pans, February 20. Official: Progress in the Champagne district continues. We captured two successive lines of trenches north of Mesail. Fearing contamination, the German stall has ordered the exhumation of hastily buried dead on elevated parts of Belgium. The bodies were tied in fours, placed in goods wagons and covered with hay and beet-root and re-buried at GERMAN ACTIVITY AT ANTWERP.
