"Eye-Witness" reports that during the lighting on tho 17th south-east of Ypres that a company of men held a position until all were killed or wounded, and only three of the latter were capable of firing. They kept the enemy at bay until the ammunition was nearly exhausted. Then they sent word to the rear. Seven strong men carried ammunition to the trench. They found the three survivors standing among their dead and disabled comrades, still firing steadily. They came in the nick of time to help to beat oil' the. assault, and the position was saved.
