FIXE EXHIBITION OF STOCK. OPENS TO-DAY. Yesterdaj' was a busy (lay at the Showgrouiuis, wisero a large gang oi liiui were busy making final preparations for what promises to be the Most successful show in the history of the Taranaki Agricultural Society. Cood entries have been received'in all classes, in cattle some of the best'known breeders of Ayr-lmcs, Jerseys, Holstviiia an,l Shorthorn j, both b'jcf and milking itraiiw, are competing. Th horse, ctep, pig and .log sections have all filled well! In tli'J coipetitions there will be keen sport, as very large entries have'been received in the .jumping events. Tho side shows, without which an agricultural show is not nowadays complete, will l>a numerous and, varied.. The secretary lias made very complete arrangements for fie convenience of tile public cn the showground to-day and to-mor-row. Those members who have not yet obtained their members' pass tickc's can obtain tiuiu from the official staff at the various gates. There will be a ladies' cioak room open 011 Thursday under the grandstand, and there will also be a tent on the ground for the convenience of ladies. School committees have pcrmis-* sion from the Education Board to c?ose their schools on People's Day, so that teachers and schoolchildren can attend the show.

THE GOVERNMENT. EXPERT,

Considerable disappointment was felt by many Taranaki farmers, when it became known that Mr Primrose MeConnell. Government agricultural expert would he unable to visit New Plymouth and lecture on green fodder to night In conection therewith, Mr 11. J. Okey. M.P., yesterday received the following telegram from the Minister "of Agriculture, Hon W. F. Massev: —"l have just been informed that Mr Primrose McCon--11 ell is at present engaged at the Waikaria camp, making a special report for the Justice Department, apd that it is impossible for him to reach New Plymouth m time to keep his engagement with the A. and. Society. In these circnmstnnces I have given instructions for Mr Hill, of Momnahaki. to take his place. _ T regret, exceedingly that any disappointment should be caused to the Association, hut this information has only just reached me. lam wiring similarly to Mr Connett."
