FIRE BRIGADES. THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Per press Association, Timaru, February 22. The sixth conference of the fire brigades opened this morning. The report showed assets of £853, an increase for the year of £317. The roll of brigades was 133, this being six more than during th e previous year. Fourteen members had earned gold stars for twenty five years' service. Nearly 200 '■•"■rs had responded to the Empire's call. The brigades arc to keep these "bers good on the books. It is still raining heavily, and the outlook is rather bad for outdoor festivities.
