TARIKI DEFEAT STRATFORD DISI TRICT HIGH SCHOOL. | Our Tariki correspondent writes tliat on the l!)th inst., Stratford District High ' School played a match against a Tariki team at Tariki, which resulted in a win 1 for the latter after a well contested and ' enjoyable game. In the first innings, | the boys suffered from want of confidence, and made a poor standing against the bowling of McYoung and William. McDonald, the captain, who batted nicely, being the only batsman to reach double figures. For Tariki, Mr Hume, formally station-master hero, showed he had not lost any of his prowess in the cricket-field and contributed a vigorous 18, before having the ill-luck to be run out. In the second innings the sclioil made a better show, Stoddart, Coutts, Mail and Wright all reaching double figures. Tariki's second innings opened disastrously, and the school's chance of winning looked rosy till McYoung and Harkness got going and knocked up the necessary runs. The wicket was rather "bumpy," and several batsmen had illr ill-luck of not scoring before dismissed. Under the circumstances, the performance of the schoolboys was most creditable, the'r fielding and bowling being excellent. Detailed scores: — STRATFORD DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL First Innings.
