The Defence authorities hav- received advice of the promotions of Captains A. (J. Robinson and N. C. Hamilton, of the Army Service Corps, to the rank of majors, with ecect from October 30th. 1!)I4. Majors Robinson and Hamilton are members of the British Army, Service Corps, and both have been engaged in organising tho New Zealand Army, Service Corps for the past two - years.

The news of the death at Canlfield, ' ■Melbournoj on ' Tuesday last, of 'Mr. ■{' Llndrew Campbell, at one time a very prominent figure in Wellington business circles, will be received with regret by his many old friends and acquaintances in Wellington. The late Mr Campbell was born in Scotland ,67 years ago, and, landing in Dunedin when quite a youth,, entered the service of tile National Insurance Company. On retirement from . the management of the Wellington . . brandi of Mr F. G. Thompson, Mr!--. Campbell was selected to fill tlie position, which he held until 17 years ago. < when he was promoted to branch manager at Melbourne. Having been subject to very bad health during the pasE two or three years he voluntarily retired from the company's service six : months ago.
