A SEVERE DEFEAT,
- HEAVY RUSSIAN LOSSES IN PRUSSIA. GERMANS GAINING CONFIDENCE. Received 21, 5.20 p.m. Berlin, February. 20. Official: The Russian defeat at Masurian Lakes was severe. It is doubtful whether much remains of the live corps, while it is certain that 150,000 men have been scattered, the Russians being cleared out of Bukovina. All this, together with the results of operations in the waters round Britain, inspires confidence.

Th„ Morning 1 Post's Pctrograd correspondent says the Germans are preparing to attack along tile whole huge front of 700 miles. Tliey have developed (mormons power, the attempt being eloquent testimony of long years of preparation. He states that the Germans' strngth at some parts of the line is as ten to one, but the Czar's armies will continue slaying the greatest possible number of the enemy in tbe cheapest way, patiently upon waiting their time when an advance upon the Germans at home can be made profitably.
SIEGE OF PRZEMYSL. GARRISON FED BY AEROPLANES. CAPTURE OF CZERNOWITa. Times and Sydney Sun .Services. London, February 10. Budapest anticipates that Przemysl will b e able to resist for another three ■months. The garrison consists practically of Hungarian regiments. Communication \vith the outside world is maintained by aviators. A Swiss scientist says. that Russia does not need assistance in the matter of arms and ammunition. Thirty thousand hands are employed manufacturing at Barantcha, fifty thousand at Putiloff. and another centre is at Briansk. Russia's war industry is equal, if not superior to that of other belligerents. An Austrian communique states that they occupied (Jzernowitz on Wednesday. Mr Dpnohoe's telegram was dated February 10.
RUSSIANS STILL RETIRING. IN EAST PRUSSIA. SUCCESSES AT OTHER POINTS. Received 21, i p.m. Petrograd, February 20. We are gradually retiring on Angusiovo.
We captured a height north of Voliamikhoff, in the Carpathians. A Russian battalion captured fortifications at Zavadok, killing all the defenders.
All the German massed counter-at-tacks were repulsed, with great losses. Sanguinary fighting continues in the ■Wyszkow region. We captured 2000 "prisoners and. six machine-guns in two days.
