| THE ZEPPELIN DISASTER. I ENGINES FAIL DURING A SNOWSTORM. A LOAN FOR FOODSTUFFS. Copenhagen, February 18. The Zeppelin L 3, burnt at Fango, was one of Germany's best airships. She encountered a snow storm, and fought the elements for five hours, but finally only one motor was workable, and she passed the Danish frontier towns, rapidly sinking. Then the fourth mot;>r ceased and she landed, narrowly missing a hotel. Captain Fritz set fire" to her to prevent revelations of the secret machinery and equipment. The Kaiser has commissioned Herr Strauss to write a new Imperial March inspired by the war. It begins on a funeral note but ends with triumph. Th; Kaiser has promised Herr Strauss the Order of the Red Eagle. Amsterdam, February 18. The Berliner Tageblatt says that the municipality of Heidelberg is raising a loan of three million marks to purchase foodstuff«. The Da'ly News' Copenhagen correspondent says: "Public feeling in Germany towards Americans has changed since Washington' made it plain that she would stand none of the Kaiser's nonsense. Muny An-erieans have been aubI:ely insulted, and the position of the American war committees is becoming extremely difficult. Some members •'.ave found the position intolerable, au-1 bevo. resigned and prepared to unit Germany. Other Americans are leaving for Copenhagen. They state that it h reported that owing- to the necessity for restricting food consumption, the German Government intends to order five million people, possessing independent means, but ineligible for military service, to depart to neutral countries till the end of the war. It is proposed that three millions will go to Scandinavia, and a million each to Holland and Switzerland.
A KAISERIAN MESSAGE. NEW LEVIES EULOGISED. JOY AND SORROW MIXED. Received 19, 11.30 p.m. Amsterdam. February 19. The Kaiser telegraphed to Ilerr Bcth-mann-nollweg regarding the Masurian Lakes battle. He said that under his own eves the new levies had proved equal to thp old troops. '-Neither cold, snow, nor the tenacity of the enemy impeded victory. Our losses were fortunately small. My joy at the glorious success was diminished at the sight of a flourishing district laid waste. Devoid of all human feeling, the enemy, in a senseless rage during their flight, burnt and destroyed almost all the large houses. The loss is irrecoverable."
