A BAFFLING SILENCE.
RUSSIAN SENT TO GAOL. Wellington, Last Night. For some weeks a mysterious foreigner has baffled the Wellington police. ■ He is a Russian, named Ludmit Oromica; ■ sent here by ,the Creymouth Charitable Aid Board,; and now charged with being an idta and disorderly person, with insufficient means of support. Ho 'has 'been ■■ several times demanded. He refuses to speak to anybody. When charged, ho took no notice, and the Magistrate sen-, toneed him to three months. This was , ■ interpreted to who continued 1 smile calmly, as he had done through-. iut the proceedings. Doctors say he is ' not insane. They are also convinced that he understands English, as he does everything he is told in that language fo do.
