PUKEARUHK. The,, cricket match, North v. South Pukearuhe, came off on Friday last, and, as was to be expected, created intense excitement both to players and spectators alike. The match wis played in Mr. Bowman's White UiHs paddock, near th e homestead, and bordering on the coast road, afforded the travelling public a convenient view of the proceedings. The weather was ideal for tlie occasion, and the match proved most enjoyable from all points of the compass, and doubtless had t«e famous veteran cricketer "WG " been present, that gentleman would, perforce, have been highly amused and amazed at seeing some of the "tricky hits and "mighty misses" energetically manoeuvred on the field. The match was somewhat one-sided owing to the fact that the parties were unevenly divided, which the results obviously show. Nevertheless, the game was decidedly interesting, and the losers '' met their defeat in good sportsmanlike! spirit. North won the toss, and elected to bat. and were easily disposed of for' U m their first innings, but they made I a much better stand in their second, in I which they put up tlie fine score 'of-S4. ' In the latter innings they undoubtedly played with more vim and confidence. I The result, however, was ineffective, as j their opponents made the creditablo total of 82 in their first innings, thus winning by an innings and 4 runs, the I principal contributors to which were A I and P, Spurr and S Sutton, who were I also most disastrous with the bowling. I For the losers. J. Waters, .T. Gadd A*. Penwarden, and C. Gilbert bowled best. Tim former made a very efficient wicketkeeper, as did also S. Sutton for the winners. The teams were under the j captaincy of A. Sorensen (Smith) and ■T. Waters (North). Mr. J. Penwarden umpired, and his experienced and impartial judgment pave no cause for dissent Associated with him was Mr. McOnic. Mention must be made' of tb» Pukearuhe ladies, consisting of Mesdames Waterson, H Wells, Pcnwnrdcn, Davis, Bowman, Cartwright, P. Wells.' Rowe and Martin, for so generouslv providing such, a delicious "spread" of eatables', which were quite in keeping with their reputation in that direction. pnd one f may truly exclaim: "What would we do ! without the ladies?" I Following are the individual scores:—) North Pnkearuhc.—First. Innings: J. Waters 7. B. Waterson 2. A. Penwarden 1, -T. Gadd fl, Nelson Davis 1, C. Gilbert 0. Tom White 1, A. Davis 1. T.
