His Worship said that with the ;-i----formation given by Mr. Griffiths, the Council would be able to consider the matter.

In reply to Cr_ Mannix, Mr. Griffiths said that the. free grant of the land wag affected by a mortgage of the previous owner. 1

Subsequently a deputation from the' High School Board, consisting of Messrs' •Dockrill (chairman), Eraser, Ewing, Mcl Tardy, Webster and Dr. Fookes,' waited on the Board, and were informed by the Mayor of the Council's views on tlie question. The discussion was taken in Committee.

Several other matters of importance! were also taken in Committee, without any action in open Council, relative' to business transacted in committee.
