ADJOURNED -MEETING. : ' An adjourned meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night Present: His Worship tlie Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson), Crs. KILb7, Jackson, Smith, Ambury. Burgess,. Sykes and Mannix. '■
Mr. E. Griffiths waitru oil the Council with reference to '„ork at Paynter's lane. He pointed or.i that the widening of the lane wo v ld be a good payable proposition. Sic understood that it was intended originally to widen the lane by 20 feet, but that an additional 2 feet was thour\it necessary, and one of tlie owners, Mr Barry, was averse to the widening, I'.n". was practically holding lip the work. lie suggested that a sub-committee sh mid be appointed to attend to the mutter, and, failing an agreement being arrived at, that the land should be tak.'n under the Public Works Act. Some time back, under the Town Board, it was proposed to raise a loan of £7OOC for streets, but in view of the proposal to merge into' the Borough the matter was blocked, and the result was that the needed improvenients had been held Vack for three or four years.
His Worship said that with the ;-i----formation given by Mr. Griffiths, the Council would be able to consider the matter.
In reply to Cr_ Mannix, Mr. Griffiths said that the. free grant of the land wag affected by a mortgage of the previous owner. 1
Mr. Griffiths thanked the Co'T'.'.l and withdrew. On the motior 0 f the Mayor, the Council wer; into Committee over a' propos"' of the High School Board for tlr -xehange of land with the Borough. Subsequently a deputation from the' High School Board, consisting of Messrs' •Dockrill (chairman), Eraser, Ewing, Mcl Tardy, Webster and Dr. Fookes,' waited on the Board, and were informed by the Mayor of the Council's views on tlie question. The discussion was taken in Committee.
Several other matters of importance! were also taken in Committee, without any action in open Council, relative' to business transacted in committee. The Auditor-General wrote, returning 1.',;,, y. ■. - V Hloocn-fllieot, to AvWcfi two tags were attached. The balance-sheet was formally approved ■ The Council adjourned. , 3
