Sir T. Coghlan's term as AgentGeneral for Mew South Wales has been extended for six months.

A London cablegram reports the death of the Rev. Dr Fordyee, a prominent Congregational minister, in Australia. Messrs. S. Paul, 'W. D. Webster, Beg. Quilliam and T, Kirkby leave by tlic mail train this morning for the Trentliam reinforcements training camp.
Dr 11. B. Ewen, son of the lato Mr Bayldon Ewen, of 'Wellington, who recently completed his medical course, has been appointed to the Wellington Hospital staff, and commences his duties this week.
The Rev. Father Ormond has horn forwarded by the Mayor of Auckland a letter congratulating him, as a native of Auckland, upon receiving t!i,> important appointment, of secretary to the Roman Catholic Apostolic delegate for Australia.
Pahiatua reports the death at Mangfitqinoka of Mr Cecil James Harford, lianseo of the Dudley Arms Hotel. The deceased was well known in Canterbury district, also in racing and athletic circles. For a considerable period he followed the calling of a commercial traveller, and was formerly in business in Palnierston North.
We understand that the committee of the Hawke's Bay Agricultural and iFastoral Society, Napier, has invited Mr W. A. Hewitt (manager of the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford) to act as judge of the grain and seeds departments at ths Society's autumn show, to be 'held in March, which position Mr Hewitt has accepted.
The Rev. F. Sinclaire, who is well known in Auckland, has been appointed English lecturer to the University of Melbourne. Mr Sinclaire was educatj'l at the Auckland Grammar School and is a graduate of the New Zealand University, where he toolc first-class honors in classics, and held the senior Latm scholarship. went to England and took a three years' post graduate course at Oxford, where he won the Martinlau prize and also the Williams scholarship, upen for competition to the gradual of all universities . For some years prior to his present appointment he delivered lecture 3 in connection with the Melbourne University.
The death occurred oil Tuesday last of an old resident of Wellington, in tin: person of Mrs Maria Wilson (nee Watson), at tihe ago of eighty years, after a painful illness. Mrs Wilson came to Melbourne from London, and arrivnd in New Zealand by the ship Hanover 'll 1833, the trip across the Tasrnan Sea occupying four weeks. Prior to settling in Wellington ?oie resided for a time in Nelson. The deceased wag a sister nf 'Mrs TCebecca Remington (uidoiv of Mr ,T Beminsjtun), who is ninety years of agr. and is livine with her daughter, Mrs J. 'Russell. of Tory street. Her brother was Mr T). Ribbon, well known in shipping circles in Melbourne. The late Mrs Wilson in survived by a family consistin? of Messrs W. and J. Wilson, of Tamilian ntre't. and Mrs F. Lamberg, Mr*. E. T. Taylor, and Mrs. W. Branigan, all cf whom reside at Kilbirnie.
