DEMAND FOR SHIPS. At the present time there is great demand for eargo-slups in various parts of the world—due to the fact that so many vessels have been seized or interned in neutral ports, and that hundreds of steamers have been taken over by the British authorities for military purposes. The carriage of the wheat crop from the Argentine will keep numerous vessels employed for some time, anil the services of several, sailing ships have been requisitioned in this connection. Already several sailers have been chartered in Australia and Sew Zealand to carry wheat cargoes Home. The Ital"ian ship Eurasia left Auckland on Thur«- * dav morning last for Monte Video, in i ballast, to load wheat for Europe, but | unfortunately went aground in the • Firth of Thames, and returned to Auckland after being refloated. It is expected that she will resume her voyage i n si few days. The barque Irene, which recently discharged a cargo of guano at the Bluff from Maiden Inland, left the southern port on Friday last for! Buenos Avres, where she will load wheat! for a Home port. The Norwegian fourniasted barrpientine Ba, which brought a cargo of eojl from Newcastle to Auckland some months ago, and which subsequently loaded a cargo of cement at Whangarei for Brisbane, has also been chartered. The Ba is now on her way from Brisbane to Buenos Ayres to load wheat for Europe. Another charter announced is that of tlie Norwegian barque Cairnsmore. This vessel went to Auckland from Samoa shortly after the outlTreak of the war. After docking she proceeded to Surprise Island and loaded a cargo of guano, which she is now discharging at Dunedin. On completion of discharge, the Cairnsmore will also proceed to Buenos Ayres to load a cargo of wheat for Europe.
