WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works CommitUe reports:— That Crs. Clarke and Burgess be added to tiie linanci; committee; liiat consideration of the letter from the borough solicitors with reference to building on Mr Saxlon's property (condemned) he deferred until next meeting; that Messrs E. Humphries and C. C. Ward be appointed to the citizens' baud commiuce; that a sub-committee, consisting of Crs. Collin, Ifeaiy, and Kibby be appointed to recommend to the Council suitable sites for express and cab stands; that the Borough engineer be authorised to lay down concrete Hag stones on tiie footpaths on both sides of Devon street from Kobe .street to Brougham street; that the -application of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable /Aid Hoard for the formation and metalling West- street and Jjowne street be referred to the estimates committee; that Mrs Brash he informed that it is only possible to send tlie water cart, to the residential streets 0,, sueeial occasions of extraordinary traffic; that -Mr. X. That the borouch engineer be instructed to repair all places where the underground telephone wires have been laid down and to charge the cost to the Telegraph Department in accordance with the arrangement made w'th the Department; that the Telegraph Department be asked to remove their poles where not on the proper alignment. ELECTRIC LIGHT COMMITTER The electric light committee reports: That Messrs T. Hawkins and R. Skelton be informed that provided they will enter into an undertaking to the satisfaction of the borough solicitors that the net revenue from the two connections shall not be less than £lO per annum, the Council will, as soon as the new transmission line is in use, make the necessary extensions to enable their properties to be connected; that the recommendations of the electrical engineer with reference to salaries and with reference to verandah and by-laws re cycle he referred to the finance committee to report upon; that the letters from the electrical engineer with reference o verandah and by-laws re verandahs he received; that the recommendation of the electrical engineer that an extra discount of one. penny per unit be allowed on all electrical energy used for heating and cooking in excess of 50 units per month be adopted and come into force on April Ist, lfllo; that the question of procuring insulators be referred to the chairman, w'th power to act; that the chairman and his Worship the Mayor be authorised to arrange for Mr. If. Hogg or some other suitable person to be appointed clerk of works for the sub-station building. ABATTOIR COMMITTEE.
