TROOPERS EAIvIvWELLED. There was a gathering of about sixty at Mrs Kirkhy's Kia Ora rooms last night for the purpose of farewelling Messrs. S. Raul, W. D. Webster, R. H. Quilliam, T. Kirkhy and H. Soutliam, who are about to leave for Trentham to join the rcinforcemer.is for the front. The first four-named are under orders to leave for Trentham on Tuesday, February Kith, and the last-named expects to leave a little later. The gathering was presided over by Mr Jas. McLeod, and was representative of practically every sporting body in Taranaki. Captain C. H. AVeston, whose services for the front have been accepted, was among those present. Mr McLeod proposed the silver wristlet watches (and o n behalf of the gathering present,*! Messrs S. Paul, W. D. Webster, and R. 11. Quilliam with silver wristlet watches, and on behalf of Mrs Paid with safety razors) and Messrs T. Kirkhy and IT. Southam with cases of military hair brashes Among other toasts were "Our Boys i n Egypt," proposed by Mr ,T. D. Scott and responded to by Mr C. H. Weston; "Our Allies" proposed by Mr ,T. Eberlet, who referred to the great stand made by the Belgians and urged all to devote at least one day's wages to the relief fund. An excellent musical programme was rendered, to which the following contributed, being encored in the tnajoritv of cases: Songs. Messrs Ilaslam, Lambert, L. Smith, Keys, Nippcrt Bros, Olennie, Ainsworth, ,T. I.ovell. C. Webster, Ingram; recitations, Messrs Goldsworthy,..!. Eberlet and A Smith; musical monologues, Messrs Vinsen, Brooks and E. Golding. Mr E. Golding played the accompaniments.
