OFFICER FOR REINFORCEMENTS. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Dunedin, Yesterday. Captain Redmond Neil, who is one of the reserve officers of the Princess Victoria's Royal Irish Fusiliers regiment, and who was adjutant to the half battalion of the 4th Wellington regiment in the Samoan expeditionary force, will be sent to the front with the reinforcements. THE WHEAT SHORTAfiIJ. AN APPEAL TO FARMERS. Oamaru, Last Night. At a meeting of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association io-day, a deputation from the Oamaru Merchants' Association waited on the Association to confer with the A. and P. Committee regarding the wheat shortage problem. Mr W. R. Rose, for the merchants, advocated urging wheat growers to plant greater areas, not oifly for the benefit of the country, but a a an act of patriotism. He quoted interesting statistics showing that North Of ago had fallen off greatly in recent years in wheat production. The A and P. Society unanimously decided to immediately circularise nil wheat growers in the district, urging them to plant much more considerably next season. WESTPORT PROTESTS. AGAINST INCREASED FOOD PRICES. Westport, Last Night. At a largely-attended public meeting to-night, the increased cost of flour and other foodstuffs was discussed, and a resolution passed, protesting against the unwarranted increase in the cost of foodstuffs, and calling on the Govcrnment to protect the public against the increases, and to commandeer wheat and other foodstuffs. A resolution was also carried, asking the Government to supply flour at former rates, to enable people to get bread at a reasonable figure.
