A RAILWAY FATALITY.
FIXING THE BLAME. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association, Auckland, Last Night. When on the top of a new railway signal post at Henderson on 26th., Jas, Porter, a railway carpenter, fell a distance of 30 fcet and received injuries which resulted fatally. At the inquest to-day evidenftJ showed that one of the guy ropes which held the derrick in position beside the post crossed the line of rails, but did not allow sufficient clearance and was cut by the top of a passing train. The derrick swung round and dislodged Porter who fell. The coroner pointed out that the responsibility fell upon the foreman, Harry Johnson, who had failed to observe the regulations, which provide that the guy rope shall allow a clearance for passing trains and that the statiormaster be warned of its presence. The coroner will give his verdict to-morrow.
