THE SATURDAY COMPETITION. 7Tie Saturday competition was continued in fine weather. On the Recreation Ground, United Service gained a three-point win over Albion just on the eall oi time. At Tikorangi, Law defeated the local team on. the first inI nings, and gained a two-point win, their first this season. Inglewood were unable to raise a team, owing to harvesting and other causes, and forfeited to New Plymouth, v:ho indulged in some useful practice in Western Park. There were some fine performances with the bat and ball. The best were:— WITH THE DAT. E. Roberts (Tilcorangi) 82 Billing (Law) 30 WITH THE BALL. Ingram (United Service).. .. 3 for 0 O'Donnell (Albion) 5 for 10 Elliott (Law) 6 for 17 Bain (Unitell Service) 3 for S Dinniss (United Service) .... 7 for 22 Lash (Law) 4 for 17 UNITED SERVICE DEFEAT ALBION. United Service batted first, Bain (25) alone getting double figures. O'Donnell and Clarke divided the bowling honors, the former coming out with the best figures. Albion could make no stand against the bowling of Dinniss and Bain. The two first wickets fell for 1 run, and the innings only totalled 31, Clarke alone making double figures. Bain did the hat trick. Batting again, United Service hit up SI for the loss of four wickets, antl declared', with the object of trying to secure a three-point win. Albion had 124 runs to get to save defeat. The first wicket fell for 1 run, but fine stands by Clarke, Foote, Martin and Girling carried the score to 70 for the loss of five wickets, and it looked as if Service would have to be content with a two-point win. Seven wickets were down for 90, and with three minutes to go Ingram came on, and, though his delivery was very doubtful, he took three wickets for no runs in the over, and Service gained a three-point win just on time. LAW'S FIRST "WIN. Tikorangi wont first to the wickets, but couid make very little headway against the "bowling of I ash and" Elliott, who dismissed them for 38, H. Foreman being the only double-figure scorer. Bewley was dismissed early, but Lash and Billing carried Law's score past Tikorangi's total before a separation was effected. Tikorangi then gave Law a great leather-hunting, compiling 146 for the loss of five wickets, Roberts putting on the fine total of 82 by good cricket before he went forward to Elliott, and Quilliam him.
