SEAMEN'S TROUBLES.

Trouble has been brewing on the steamer Maori for some time, the firemen being unwilling to work under onei of the engineers. The climax was readu ed last night, the men refusing duty, , unless the engineer in question was dis-i missed The company refused. 'There is a shortage of firemen just now, owing to men volunteering for the front. Only, this week a Union boat was held up afj Dunedin for three days on this account It is understood that the Maori's meDi gave no notice of their intentions, als<s that they, have been requested by tha_ union to bring the vessel to Wellington* where the grievance can be properly cos-t sidered. The union secretary refuses taj iitake any statement. In the meantime! the company has made arrangements to cope with the position. The Waking and the. Huddart boa' AVestralia will brin" the passengers and mails to-mor-i row, and to-night the Pateena leaves here for Lyttelton, returning on Mon-i day night if necessary. This interferes with the Pieton-Nelson service, and] therefore, the Mapourika will leave 0$ Monday night for Pioton and NelsoJi, returning, via Picton, on Tuesday.
