FEDERAL CEMENT WORKS. Melbourne, January 29. At a meeting of the Public Works Committee, a proposal was mooted for the Federal Government to start cement ■works to supply the cement needed for .public works at Canberra and other places. It was estimated that the scheme would save £IOO,OOO annually. The proposed cost of the establishment would be £50,000. QUEENSLAND ELECTIONS. Eeceived 29, 10.45 p.m. Brisbane January 29. The Premier states tlrot the general elections will be held in May.
NATIONAL TOE-MAKING SCHEME. Received 29, 10.55 p.m. London, January 29. The Committee of Dye Users have adopted a modified scheme of national dye-making, with a »/iew to the future expansion of the industry. The Treasury has approved of the financial arrangements. THE BOON'S CARGO. Eeceived 29, 10.45 p.m. ; Melbourne, January 29. The Chamber of Commerce has received a reply to its inquiries from the Consul-General of Batavia, stating that the Roon's cargo will be delivered conditional on production of full sets of bills of lading, or on a bank guarantee for payment of freight, a bank guarantee for the share of general average, ja payment of 10 per cent, on account thereof, and a bank guarantee for discharging expenses.
