ANNUAL MEETING. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, January 29. At the annual meeting of the Governors of the New Zealand Institute, Professor Chilton, who presided, made reference to the death of Mr Stewart, C.E., of Auckland, and expressed the opinion that the biological results of the Australian Antarctic expedition would equal if they did not surpass those of i any others in interest and completeness. Regret was expressed at the probable loss of the Endeavour. Congratulations j were extended to Mr Cheeseman on the publication of another noteworthy contribution to the botany of New Zealand. Although one. or two minor alterations had been made in connection with the , Institute Library and the Dominion j Museum there was no real improvement and valued collections were no safer than formerly. A Science and Art Board had been constituted, hut not called together. It had been suggested that the institute should meet at the same place and about the same time as the University Senate, so that members of the Senate might attend the in'stitute. The standing committee announced that the Hector Prize for 1014 would be .£45 and that all publications of the institute available and those of 'the Canterbury Philosophical Institute had been fM together for exhibition in the New Zealand pavilion at the Panama Exposition. For the Hamilton Memorial 100 guineas was in hand.
