ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
TRACTION ENGINE-DRIVER KILLED. By Telegraph.—-Per Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. (An unmarried man named James Niw holson, who was driving a traction engine owned by Mr. Ruddenklstw, of Waimate, soon after leaving Timaru fell ofl the step, and the loaded trailer-lorry ran over his body. Death ensued in a few minutes. He is supposed to, hava come from the Lawrence district. A MIRACULOUS ESCAPEv. • 4 ■ . . Nelson, January 29. , A motor containing L. J. Frank, his wife and daughter, O. R. Cooke, and his wife, and R. P. Parker, while proceeding to Murchison yesterday, went over the bank of the BuUer Gorge, falling about 120 feet into the river* Mrs Cooke sustained a broken collarbone, a broken jaw and a severe cut on the hand, but the others escaped without injury.
