I'hi?. morning the final vounrl in th! i section play will be got off Sections A. and D. will play on the Ingle-1 wood green, B. and E. at Fitzroy and j C. and F. at New Plymouth. Should j there be several section ties, these will I be played off in the respective greens. I When the sections have been decided, the six winners will be divided into,' 'two sections of three, and each will plav ■' the other two. If, however, there are only two ties, so that eight teams remain in, the teams playing at Inglewood will be motored into the town green, where the section play off, and semi-finals will probably be played this afternoon, leaving the decision of the ■ final for to-morrow. VISITING BOWLERS ENTERTAINED. Last evening the visiting bowlers were [ the guests of the local clubs, viz., New I Plymoufh, West. End, and Fitzroy, at a! smoke concert in the Brougham .Street I ' Hall, where over a hundred bowlers as- ! sembled and spent a pleasant couple oS , i hours Mr W. J. Penn, President of the | J Taranaki Centre of the New Zealand j 1 Bowling Association, presided, and he ' was supported on his left by Colonel . 3 Collins, C 31.(1, a member of the Council J of the Dominion Association, and on his 1 right by Mr W. A. Parkinson, vice-Presi- . dent of the local centre. I. <
After the usual loyal toast had bo;>n duly honored with inusioa) aceoiupaiiimeit, a. short toast list was discussed, 'interspersed with a fine programme of musical and vocal items. "The Dominion of Now Zealand Bowl- | ing Association." was proposed by Mr W. A. I'arkinson, Vice-President of the local Centre, who refined to the advantages of having uniformity of rules throughout New Zealc'thl. lie; also sug-; gested that a Federal Association was' not without the bounds of possibility.' Australia, of course, favored the two' feet o u the mat rule, and though the local Association had tried loyally to introduce it he felt that as" far as New Zealand bowlers were concerned it was in advance of the times. i
Colonel Collins, C.M.0., in responding. Efayo a short history of the formation of the Dominion Association, which lie considered had ' advanced bowling in New Zealand by leaps and bounds." He defended the two feet on the mat rule. He eulogised the local centre, for the manner in which the present tourna-
ment was being carried out. He con-1 i.iiui-J by remarking that bowlers when | they tallied of the strenuous time tliey j i.;ui bad should consider the strenuous j limes tiie Allies were having in keep-J injf the Germans back in the fair lands I 01 France and Belgium, and should hope j tinit the lime would not be distant: v. hen the Allies would be close to Her- I lin. (Applause). "The Visiting Teams," was proposed by Mr J. 1). Sole, who expressed the hope that all would return to next year's tournament. Ueferring to tnc fact that the Inglewood green had been used, he expressed the hope that next year, it would be necessary to utilise the three town greens as well as Inglewood and 'Waitara. ■Messrs Bo water (Gonville), James (Waverlcy), Scrivner and Hodson (St. John's), responded and in the course of their remarks eulogised the Inglewood green, which was equal to the best tney had ever played on. Later in the evening the President explained that the rcasoiis for playing at Inglewood green was on account of the West End club thinking that their green was not as good as they would like it to be, and they were desirous of giving the clubs the best possible green to play on. Moreover, Mr Pereival hail offered to look after all the arrangements at that green and relieve the executive, not a very large one, of all rcsponsibilty, and this fact undoubtedly weighed with them. lie felt certain that if the entries warranted it next I year the executive would again play on I the Inglewood green, and would be supI ported therein ■by 05 per cent, of the bowlers, despite the inconvenience of I travel. (Applause). I "The Taranaki Bowling Centre," was I proposed by Mr T. IT. Nixon (Gonville) i and responded to by Mr T. C. Fookes ' (Stratford), who in the course of a I lengthy speech, eulogised the worlc of the Centre and especially of the secretary, Mr 0. 'X. Firth, to whose organisation he paid special tribute. He also complimented the caretakers of the ] three greens on their good work.
The toast of "The Ladies" was proposed Tiy Mr W. .T. Healv, and responded to by .Mr riarvie (Wave.rlcv); "The Press." proposed by Mr 0. N. Firth, and responded to by the representative of the Taranaki Daily News; "TJie Performers," proposed by Mr 0. Ifc Firth, and responded to by Mr '"Brooks and Messrs.
