Taranaki acceptances clcsy to-morrow (Friday) evening at 9 o'clock. It is reportea that Simple Sam is 'now owned by an -Auckland sportsman. Pavlova, with three wins at 'i'rentham, earned her position of top-weight in tue Taranaki Cup. Sea Plane broke a shoulder and was destroyed at 'Wanganui 011 Tuesday morning. While attending the Foxton meeting Mi. H. Eva purchased the racehorse X'la'ssis. She won one race .(at Woodville) last season. Nominations for the Wanganui Clip only number fifteen, and the club will hav-e to seriously consider the advisability of changing such a long distance event to some more suitable season of the year. Most of our stayers are knocked out by spring and summer racing and are on the retired list when the leaves begin !o . c n!i. The Opunake iiajing Club publishes in another column an attractive programme for the annual meeting to lie held on St. Patrick's Day. Stakes have been increased from £320 to £7(10. The Racing Club Handicap is now worth £l5O, an,! the other event's are as follow: —Maiden £7O, Hurdles £!I0, Flying £SO, Electric £BO, Welter £3O, President's Handicap £llO. and Farewell £BO. These increased stakes show tliat the Opunake Club does not intend to be left behind in 'lie genera! forward movement of the Taranaki racing clubs, and th e club's enterprise should be rewarded when entries close 011 February 20. A Hawera correspondent enquires the weights to be carried by several probable starters in the Egmont; Stakes, to be run over six furlongs 011 the first day of the Egmont summer meeting.
