PROGRESSIVE KAPONGA.

I [ ELECTRIC LIGHT SCHEMJS. The Kaponga Town Board recently dealt with the electric lighting eontract, tenders for which closed on 14th | January. For section 1 of the contract, covering all concrete work, including the construction of dam, lieadworks, pipe-line, power-house, concrete poles, etc., five tenders were received, viz.: 11. W. Lewis, £2843; Shaw and Payne, I £2070; W. D. McCalmont, £1769; J. | W. Tong, £1500; E. Cave, £1490 15s j

I (accepted). A commencement with the work will be made by Mr. Cave almost j immediately. I Ifo one of the tenders received for J sections 2 and 3 of the contract, covering the turbine plant and dynamo and electric plant respectively, was deemed satisfactory, mcsi of them being subject to various provisos, the time allowed for tendering apparently having been insufficient to allow the tenderers to put in complete prices. In consequence it was decided to extend the time for receiving tenders until the 28th inst., when a special meeting will be held to reconsider them.

It was resolved that the Public Trustee be advised that the first tender had been let, and that he be asked to expedite the handing over to the Board of the amount of the loan for the work.
