BLUFF HARBOR.
SATISFACTORY RETURNS:. \' By 1 elograph.—Per Press Association^' Invercargill, Last Night. The preliminary statement of w counts for the year ending 31st Decern* ber, 1914, presented to the Bluff 'Harbor; Board, discloses a very satisfactory position. In his comments upon the statement, the chairman, Mr. A. F. Hawke, said that, considering the effects of the general strike in the early part of the year and the European war in the latter part, the figures could be considered very satisfactory to the Board, an opinion in which the members, of the Board concurred. The total receipts amounted to £23,811, and the ordinary revenue to £23,503. Notwithstanding the adverse influences referred to, tha ordinary revenue was only £2OO less' than that of the preceding year. The expenditure was £10,749, as compared with £25,383 for 1913, so that the Board's account went £4500 to the good during the year, and its financial ppsi-. tion is very strong. The shipping return shows that 3W! vessels, aggregating 504,283 tons, visited the port, the figures for 1913 being 352 vessels of 523,150 tons. The volume of business was 118,204 tons, as against 120,000 tons for 1913. The figures are a reflex of the sound condition of tne district's trade.
