As the greens are in excellent order, some keen contests should take place. The ot'Mcial weiiomc will take place on the New Plymouth green at 8.15 a.m., when the president or the centre, Mr \V. ■I. Pcnn. will do the honors of the occasion. 'J lie players in the section which will occupy tiie luglewood green will be unable to take part in the opening ceremony, as they leave the town station for luglewood by the 7.4S train.

At the conclusion of the opening ceremony, those bowlers who will be playing at Fitzroy will proceed thither by conveyances provided for the purpose. j Arrangements have been made to supply the bowlers with refreshments at if a.m., and in tlhe afternoon. \ Owing to the Auckland team dropping out, there will be only 47 rinks, each of the greens taking eight rinks at a time. It is expected that the tournament will be concluded on Friday. ] A number of the visiting bowlers an! accompanied by their wives imkl members of their families. Visitors will be cordially welcome at all the greens. Mr M. Casey, president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, arrived by the mail train on Saturday night.

Some of the southern bowlers at the recent bowling tournament at, Auckland tell how greatly they enjoyed an inci-, dent at th e president's garden party, held at Ponsonby. Amongst the numerous guests were Sir Joseph Ward, Mr Myers, and other political lights. A fewwords from these gentlemen were i:i-'c-.vitable, and they eloquently spoke about "kissing kitty," and what a world itwould be if there was no "bias." Sir James Carroll was also called on for a korero, and, walking up to the orchestra, lie started, "ft's a long way to Tipper- ' arv." The bowlers wined in the chorus with a vim, and "Jimmy" scored a hatful.
