The Economist adversely criticises the Treasury embargo, anjd says it may cause needless annoyance to the colonies. We live on freetrade in foodstuffs and all commodities, and protection in finance is an impossibility if London is to be the world's banker. SHIPPING DIFFICULTIES.
London, January 22. The Manchester Guardian says that the Hoard of Trade inquiry into increased freights tends to show that the main cause is congestion in the docks rather than to a shortage of ships. A million tons of shipping is lying idle all round the coast. It is hoped that increased pay and overtime will attract additional labor to the docks. NEW ZEALANDERS IX hXiYPT.
