BOY'S PLUCKY RESCUE.
COMMENDED BY THE CORONER. | Auckland, January 21. Reference to the bravery of one of the boys concerned in the sad boating fatality off Preston's Beach, Point Chevalier, on Wednesday, was made by the coroner, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., at the inquest concerning the death of Raymond Preston, fifteen years of age, son of Mr. James Preston, of Dominion road. In addition, Mr. Cutten decided to write a letter to the boy praising him for his conduct. A verdict was returned that Raymond Preston died from drowning while endeavoring to save his two younger brothers. "The little boy Jack Preston," said the coroner, "deserves an esperial word of rommendation. He is on 11 years of age, but, due to his bravery and intelligence, the lives of two other boys were saved. Although these boys were not much smaller than himself, he succeeded in keeping hold of both of them, and supported them until they were rescued by a boat from shore."
