OTHERS (ALSO IN TROUBLE. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Gisborne, Last Nigflit. Herbert Mad Lean, traveller for J. Griffin and Co., of Nelson, was drowned wiiile surf bathing on Waikanae beach this afternoon. A beach fete was in progress, and hundreds of pejfrnle wore about at the time. Efforts at rescue were unavailing, as Mac Lean was not seen after lie firs'!/ sank. The body has rot yet been recovered. Another'commercial, named Gilchrist, who was bathing with Mac Lean, had a very narrow escape, being rescued at the ast gasp. A nasty surf was running as a result, of a marine disturbance, and several other parties were in trouble notably the life-saving team while /jiving a demonstration with their reel
