NURSERYMEN'S ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington January 20. The New Zealand Association of Nurserymen commenced its annual conference to-day. The Premier, in addressing the conference, said that it had been recognised that planting timber trees was important to the State. A great deal lmd been done, but a great deal more remained to be done, not only by the Forestry Division, but by local bodies and settlers. The people owed a duty to themselves and to posterity to plant as many trees as possible. He also referred to the development of the fruit industry and the possibilities ahead. The president of the conferences, Mr W. S. Johnston, said that there was a great future before the fruit industry, and the export of fruit would be one of the Dominion's finest assets. Fruit could be produced in enormous quantities, and markets were assured. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr Thos, Horton; vice-president, Mr C. J. Mackay; pastpresident, Mr W. S. Johnston; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr G. A. Green. The out-going committee was Te-elected with the addition of the name of Mr A. M. Donald. The Mowing vice-presi-dents (the chairmen of the district councils) were elected: Southland, Mr J. McHesney; Otago, Mr George Howden; Tiraaru, Mr P. Allen; North Canterbury, Mr Robert Nairn; Wellington, Mr Thomas Waugh; Hawke's Bay, Mr W. Webb; Wanganui, Mr A. J. Laird; Taranaki, Mr R. McK. Morison; Auckland, Mr D. A. Hay.
