All the equipment and the personnel would be provided by the Government, and what was wanted was voluntary help to give extra facilities and comforts. He points out 'that 'England has asked for and received much voluntary financial assistance, and 110 one bad suggested for a moment that this was wrong or unnecessary. It had been left to Dunedin to raise such a question. There is real need for the £2OOO, and so far £430 has been obtained. INTERNMENT OF ALIENS. Auckland, January l'j. A large meeting of Justices of the Peace passed a resolution urging the Government to intern all male alien enemies in New Zealand, whether naturalised British subjects or unnaturalised, for the duration of the war, that they be treated kindly and in a humanitarian spirit, but prevented from causing any mischief to the community. ' TIMARU'S AID TO BELGIAN FUND. A FURTHER EFFORT. Timaru, Last Night. The general committee of the British and' Belgian Fund met on Saturday and determined to make further efforts to raise money to assist the distressed Belgians. So far £OSOO has been sent forward by this committee and there is some £BOO in hand. Fresh subscriptions were started in the room, and headed by £3O from the Atlas Mill Co. £2OB was reached in a few minutes. The meeting endorsed the resolutions passed by the Dunedin doctors that the State should bear all the expense of the forces.
